The Discipline of Union

The Discipline of Union

Hatha Yoga is one of the oldest and most foundational branches of yoga, often described as the discipline of balance and union. The very word “Hatha” combines Ha (sun, active, masculine, solar energy) and Tha (moon, receptive, feminine, lunar energy), pointing to yoga’s purpose of harmonizing opposites.

Unlike purely physical fitness systems, Hatha Yoga is a complete practice of asana (postures), pranayama (breathwork), mudra (gestures), bandha (energy locks), and meditation. It trains the body, mind, and breath to move in alignment, clearing blockages in the nadis (energy channels) and preparing practitioners for deeper states of awareness.

Codified in classical texts such as the Hatha Yoga Pradipika and Gheranda Samhita, this practice emphasizes that the physical poses are not the end goal but a gateway to meditation and spiritual awakening. Through steady effort and mindful awareness, Hatha Yoga builds strength, flexibility, resilience, and clarity, making it both a beginner-friendly entry point and a lifelong path of transformation.

At Agniyana, Hatha Yoga serves as one of the core foundations of our Sacred Body Practices. Whether you come seeking physical alignment, nervous system regulation, or the meditative depth of traditional yoga, Hatha provides the tools to reconnect body, mind, and spirit.

My Lineage & Training

My journey in Hatha Yoga is rooted in both traditional yogic wisdom and modern anatomy-informed education. I have completed over 700 hours of Yoga Alliance–certified training, blending classical practice with contemporary understanding:

  • 200-Hour Teacher Training – Hatha & Vinyasa Yoga (YogaRenew, June 23, 2023)

  • 200-Hour Teacher Training – Online Yoga School (Yoga & Ayurveda Center) (Sept 7, 2021)

  • 300-Hour Advanced Yoga Teacher Training – YogaRenew (Nov 10, 2023)

These programs deepened my knowledge of asana alignment, sequencing, anatomy, meditation, and pranayama, while also grounding me in the philosophical roots of yoga.

In addition to structured trainings, my teaching has been shaped by ongoing study of Tantra, breathwork, Ayurveda, and yogic psychology, which allow me to guide Hatha classes that are both physically strengthening and spiritually nourishing.

For me, Hatha Yoga is not simply a style of yoga—it is the path of discipline, awareness, and transformation.

Ayurveda Meets Hatha: The Vedic Healing Lens

One of the most unique aspects of my Hatha practice is its integration with Ayurveda, the ancient Indian system of medicine. Under the guidance of Dr. Vasant Lad, one of the most respected living Ayurvedic scholars, I’ve studied how yogic practices align with doshas (body types), seasonal rhythms, and mind-body healing.

Through AyurPrana, I’ve completed over a dozen certifications that bring Ayurveda and Hatha together, including:

  • Meditation – Medicine for the Mind

  • The Loving Body – Chakra Balancing

  • Emotional Resonance: How Emotions Manifest in Organs

  • Mending the Mind – Psychological Trauma through Ayurveda

  • Ayurveda & Mental Health (3-part series)

  • Ayurvedic Palmistry, Gemstone Healing, and Vedic Astrology

  • Vastu Principles – Designing Spaces in Harmony with Energy

This integration allows me to approach Hatha not only as movement, but also as a form of medicine. When paired with Ayurveda, Hatha Yoga becomes a tool for balancing doshas, releasing stored emotions, and realigning both physical and energetic systems.

At Agniyana, I share Hatha Yoga as a way to strengthen the body, clarify the mind, and awaken the spirit, while also teaching how each practice connects with larger cycles of nature and personal healing.

Teaching Philosophy

My approach to Hatha Yoga is grounded in both structural safety and energetic flow, blending the physical, mental, and spiritual dimensions of the practice. I view each class as a ritual of presence—a sacred fire through which tension, stagnation, and limitation are burned away, allowing students to emerge more whole.

In my teachings, you can expect:

  • Breath-led transitions that cleanse, energize, and unify the body with awareness.

  • Integration of Ayurvedic rhythms – practices aligned with seasonal wisdom and doshic balance.

  • Mantras, mudras, and chakras woven into practice to cultivate focus, subtle awareness, and resonance with inner energies.

  • Space for inquiry and transformation, where students can meet themselves beyond the physical layer.

Two of my most beloved Hatha practices are Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation) and Chandra Namaskar (Moon Salutation). Surya Namaskar awakens vitality, heat, and strength—honoring the solar force within. Chandra Namaskar, by contrast, is cooling, receptive, and meditative, aligning us with the lunar essence of surrender and reflection. Together, they embody the Ha–Tha polarity at the heart of yoga: sun and moon, effort and ease, expansion and release.

When taught in this way, Hatha Yoga becomes not just exercise, but a pathway of union—a place where movement transforms into meditation, and where the body itself becomes a tool for awakening.

Who It's For

Whether you come with a background in martial arts, Qigong, Tantra, or are stepping onto the mat for the first time, Hatha provides a practice that meets you where you are.

It is designed to help you:

  • Build strength and mobility – improving posture, alignment, and resilience.

  • Regulate the nervous system – developing calm under stress and clarity in daily life.

  • Complement other practices – harmonizing beautifully with Meditation, Pranayama, Qigong, Ayurveda, and martial training.

  • Lay the foundation for deeper yoga – preparing the body and mind for more advanced practices of pranayama, meditation, and subtle energy cultivation.

Hatha Yoga is especially beneficial for those seeking balance between discipline and surrender, action and stillness, strength and softness—qualities essential not just for practice, but for life.
